Instruction Writing

This term we all enjoyed writing and following instructions. Isla came to school one day with a great writing idea. She decided that she would write a set of instructions for making fairy bread. Isla published her instructions and the other children in Room 4 followed them. We all made fairy bread to see if her instructions were in the right order. They were!!! We all had a go at writing a set of instructions. Some chose instructions for brushing your teeth, making a milo, making toast, washing your hands, and instructions on what to do in the morning before school!

Production

At the end of the term Hawea Flat School will be putting on a production for the community. The production is called The Button Box. It is a story about two young children who are staying with their grandparents on a wet boring day. Grandma gets out her button box which is full of glorious buttons - each telling a story of Grandmas travels around the world.

Room 4 is looking at China this term, and will incorporate our learning into our part of the production.
If you have anything interesting about China, or any boxes, egg cartons etc that we could use for our arts topic, that you are not using, then that would be much appreciated. You can drop it into Room 4 before or after school.

Goodbye Autumn

Last week a strong wind raced through our school sending all the leaves to the ground. We enjoyed playing in them at lunch time. Some of us collected them in piles, some of us had leave fights, and some others copied the leaves by dancing around between the trees.

Rhythm Interactive

We have been very lucky so far this term to be given the opportunity to attend some 'Arty' events around the community.

During week 3 the whole school went into town to see Rhythm Interactive. This was a group of 3 people who entertained us with drums! They interacted through actions, body language and music.
We all got a drum to use while we were there.

Yesterday we went back into town to see the Class Act Opera, and on Friday we have a theater group coming in to entertain us.
We will put another post up of these events later in the week.

An Arty Term!

Welcome back to school everyone!

I hope you all had a great holiday and lots of fun in the beautiful weather we were lucky to get.
This term is going to be busy but exciting. Our inquiry focus is on The Arts, where we will be looking at dance, drama, music, and visual art all around the world! If you have anything at home that you would like to share on this topic, please feel free to bring it in!

Festival of Colour starts in Week 1. We will get a chance to see some of the fantastic shows during the week. This will be a great start to our inquiry topic.


The days are getting colder so please make sure we all have a jacket and/or hat in our bags for those chilly lunch times!

Maths

Hi parents!

Just a quick update about what we are working on in Maths. For the last week we have been looking at time. So far we have covered the days of the week, seasons and months of the year, and ordering events in our day. Next week we will be looking at duration, and reading time in hours and half hours. Hopefully we will get to make some clocks!
It will be great to talk to your child about time when you are at home during the next couple of weeks!

On Wednesday 25th of March Room 4 and Room 4a went on a class trip into Lake Hawea. We went to visit the fire station where Doug, Brent and Churchie told us lots of interesting things about what to do when there is a fire. We got to try on the fire men's gear, had a look around the fire truck, and got to hold the hose!
We were also very lucky to visit the Lake Hawea Library. Gaye read us some books and told us about where to find different books in the library.
We all got to have a play in the local playground and when we came back to school we made thank you cards for all of our helpers on the trip.
It was a fantastic day!
