An Arty Term!

Welcome back to school everyone!

I hope you all had a great holiday and lots of fun in the beautiful weather we were lucky to get.
This term is going to be busy but exciting. Our inquiry focus is on The Arts, where we will be looking at dance, drama, music, and visual art all around the world! If you have anything at home that you would like to share on this topic, please feel free to bring it in!

Festival of Colour starts in Week 1. We will get a chance to see some of the fantastic shows during the week. This will be a great start to our inquiry topic.


The days are getting colder so please make sure we all have a jacket and/or hat in our bags for those chilly lunch times!

Maths

Hi parents!

Just a quick update about what we are working on in Maths. For the last week we have been looking at time. So far we have covered the days of the week, seasons and months of the year, and ordering events in our day. Next week we will be looking at duration, and reading time in hours and half hours. Hopefully we will get to make some clocks!
It will be great to talk to your child about time when you are at home during the next couple of weeks!

On Wednesday 25th of March Room 4 and Room 4a went on a class trip into Lake Hawea. We went to visit the fire station where Doug, Brent and Churchie told us lots of interesting things about what to do when there is a fire. We got to try on the fire men's gear, had a look around the fire truck, and got to hold the hose!
We were also very lucky to visit the Lake Hawea Library. Gaye read us some books and told us about where to find different books in the library.
We all got to have a play in the local playground and when we came back to school we made thank you cards for all of our helpers on the trip.
It was a fantastic day!

The Police Car

Last Thursday Room 4 got to go and view the Police Car. We looked at all the different things that police carry with them to keep safe. These included:

• Baton
• Torch
• Protective Vest
• Handcuffs
• Rain Jacket/High Vis Road Coat
• Hat/Gloves
• Radio
• Ticket Book
• Police Badge

We got to hear the sirens and watch the flashing lights. Miss McLeary had to wear the police vest and hat!

Mica the Clown!

Everybody loved watching Mica the clown last Friday. The colourful clown displayed some amazing magic and tricks. We also got to meet his special helper, Poppy. Some of our favourite acts included the magic balls, juggling, Poppy, and the balloon animals. At times we needed to help Mica the Clown with his magic by pointing in the air and shouting "Abracadabra!"

What's that Noise?!

It has been very busy this term outside Room 4's window. Lots of interesting noises and machinery at work. We are getting very excited about the two new classrooms at school and we can't wait until they are finished. We are enjoying watching each stage of the building process.

Are we Safe?

Room 4 have been very lucky to have had special visitors in the classroom to talk to us about keeping ourselves safe. They got us thinking about what things we need up the mountain such as good food, water, warm clothing, good footwear, hats and gloves. We had a policeman in to talk to us about the right kind of touching and secrets. Our visitors got us wondering about all sorts of things and we had lots of questions to ask them.
